What to do if a student’s block is locked

If a student cannot access a block, it is usually because the block has been automatically or manually locked. Below are the most common reasons this might happen and how to fix it.

Why a block may be locked

1. The student has moved to a different block after a post-test

Students may be moved up or down a block depending on their post-test score due to the bump-up, bump-down logic. When this happens, the previous block may be locked automatically.

2. Too many vocabulary blocks have been assigned

Students can only have two vocabulary blocks active at the same time. This helps prevent students from having too many lessons available at once.

For example:

  • The Alpha Test places a student in Block 7
  • A teacher manually assigns Block 8 and Block 9

In this case, only two of these blocks will remain accessible, and the other will be locked.

Note: This rule does not apply to blocks such as The Library or Common Roots.

How to unlock a student’s block

  1. Go to the Teacher Dashboard.
  2. Locate the student:
    • Open the student through their class, or
    • If you are a Lead, go to 'Subscription Management' → 'Student Accounts' and select the student’s name.
  3. Scroll down to the 'Block Allocation' section.
  4. In the 'Exclude Access 'column, untick the box next to the block you want to unlock.

Once the box is unticked, the student will regain access to the block.

Note: if a student has already got 2 blocks active, the block will not be unlocked.
