Bedrock’s Reading Test has been designed to provide highly accurate results regarding your learners’ reading ability. To ensure this accuracy, the assessment should be completed under test conditions. However, we understand that interruptions can happen, and you may need to pause the test for a variety of reasons.
To accommodate for unexpected interruptions, you can temporarily pause the Reading Test once it has been started. For example, in the event of an emergency, technical issues, or other disruptions, pausing the test allows time for the issue to be solved without compromising the assessment.
The ability to pause also ensures that learners have a fair and uninterrupted testing experience, preventing stress or disadvantage caused by unexpected events. A test can be paused for all learners who are taking the assessment, or it can be paused on an individual level.
Remember
The test can be paused for up to 60 minutes in total. It can be paused any number of times, as long as the total time paused does not exceed one hour overall. This limit protects the validity of the assessment. If an hour passes and the test has not been resumed, the test will be automatically voided. You will then need to reschedule the test.
Pausing the test for an individual learner
You may want to pause the test for an individual learner. This can be helpful when supporting learners with additional needs who require a break during the assessment to maintain engagement.
Note
For more guidance on supporting learners with additional needs, and SEND accommodations during the reading test, we have provided additional information here.
