Why do learners have to repeat lessons?

Bedrock’s Core curriculum has been designed to ensure mastery of the vocabulary and grammar content. If a learner is finding it difficult to pass a lesson, it will be repeated to allow for greater understanding of the content. Learners will also encounter content multiple times as part of our adaptive reteaching algorithm, which encourages long-term memory retention and is personalised to each learner.

When are lessons repeated?

In the Bedrock Vocabulary curriculum, lessons have a pass mark of 60% - if a learner does not achieve this, they are simply asked to repeat the lesson until they reach the pass mark. This ensures that learners are achieving mastery of the content, and have clearly understood it before moving on. Once a score of 60% or higher has been reached, they will be able to progress with the learning pathway!

Note

Bedrock’s algorithm may also move learners into a different Vocabulary block if they are finding their current level too easy or difficult. You can read about this here.

Repeating grammar lessons

The Bedrock Grammar curriculum is structured in two units: Grammar Foundations and Advanced Grammar. Due to the more complex nature of the content in Advanced Grammar, learners must achieve the following pass marks to proceed to the next section:

  • Recap activities: Learners must achieve a mark of 80% or more to pass the recap activities first time. If not, the recap video and activities will be repeated. The second time, the learner is able to progress to the next section regardless of their mark.
  • Teaching activities: Learners must achieve a mark of 60% to pass the teaching activities. If a learner does not achieve this, they are simply asked to repeat the lesson until they reach the pass mark.
  • Mastery activities: As with the Recap activities, learners must achieve a mark of 80% or more to pass the Mastery activities first time. If not, they will be returned to the first teaching video of the lesson, and guided through the lesson again. The second time they reach the Mastery activities, the learner is able to progress to the next lesson regardless of their mark.

Note

If a learner needs to repeat any of the Advanced Grammar content, the prose audio and the videos will be skippable.

Upon completion of the grammar lessons, a large bank of practice activities is available to learners, and allows them to independently practise their new grammar skills whenever they wish.
